The Red Barn painted with fall colors in watercolor was my source for another Red Barn in spring colors - this time in oil. They're both similar, but very different because (a) different medium and (b) Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-59830438430748797222015-12-10T14:15:00.000-06:002015-12-10T14:28:12.004-06:00Awards, Events & New Work
Since my last entry to this blog, I've been rather busy with events as well as time in the studio.....and as a result of events & studio time, I produced new and exciting work that won awards in 3 separate events.
The Kerrville Outdoor Painting Event is one of my favorite plein air events and this year was especially fun - I won 2nd place with my watercolor "Welcome Home"!

The year 2015 has been a great year for me in several ways: I've produced some of my best work and have participated in 3 plein air events, each one different in their own way:
Event #1 - April 2015: The Outdoor Painters Society's juried membership show "Plein Air Southwest Salon" hosted by Southwest Gallery in Dallas. This annual event presents plein air paintings completedTina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-44030300221992113012015-01-01T15:43:00.000-06:002015-01-01T16:26:46.142-06:00Waxahachie Historic Jail
I spent the last 6 weeks of 2014 completing commissions that were for giving at Christmas. The most challenging of my commissions is The Old Jail in Waxahachie - a beautifully restored building that is now privately owned by a law firm. The following images are brief documentations of 3 stages of completion.
This is the final drawing of the building.  Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-59865742747662621542014-12-05T21:45:00.001-06:002014-12-05T21:45:48.232-06:00Awesome October: October has always been a busy month for me and 2014 was no exception. October 1st through 4th, I participated in the Kerrville (TX) Outdoor Painting Event. I truly enjoy participating in KOPE; the scenery in and around Kerrville is magnificent. Another reason I enjoy it is because I have a cousin living only 10 miles from the event and I get to spend time with her & her Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-74514715074271791272014-08-18T21:29:00.000-05:002014-08-18T21:29:31.417-05:00The Rio Grande River - My ViewThis past Spring I visited Big Bend National Park with the sole intent to create as many "color studies" as I could. In the 5 days there, I spent almost as much time driving (it's a really BIG park!) as I did painting. One never knows what kind of weather conditions will be encountered but out of all the trips I've made to this magnificent remote corner of West Texas, the weather Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-3246246147284910192014-03-16T21:40:00.002-05:002014-03-16T22:05:32.341-05:00Painting In Big Bend National ParkA couple of weeks ago, I spent 5 absolutely awesome days with 30 other artists in Big Bend National Park. This is the 4th time in as many years that I've been there, and every time I discover new places to paint. My favorite hang out is anywhere along the Rio Grande River or in the Ghost Town of Terlingua just outside the park.

I used the 1st day cleaning my studio - the 2nd day was spent re-organizing & sorting out plein air paintings to use as source for larger work. Sometimes I forget that I have plenty of subject matter right here Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-83791914215276928472013-07-15T22:29:00.000-05:002013-07-15T22:29:39.416-05:00FAST WATER - Oil on Paper
Fast Water - 9x12 Oil
Last week I traveled to Estes Park, Colorado to attend the Women Artists Of The West exhibit in the Cultural Arts Gallery - (Very proud to have 3 paintings accepted into the show). The itinerary for exhibiting artists was a full one, but I was able to "escape" up into Rocky Mountain National Park for about 4 hours. "Am I Blue?" 8x10 Watercolor
I love birds...and one of my favorites is the Bluebird! This little guy is all "puffed up" against a cold north wind. From 1983 to 1986 I lived in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. In addition to mountains, pine trees and rishing rivers, my subject matter included birds of all types...songbirds, gamebirds, ducks, geese, hawks, Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-77868144326129565062013-05-01T21:57:00.000-05:002013-05-01T21:59:49.150-05:00Out To Sea - By Tina Bohlman
Out To Sea - View from the Betzel's - 36 x 48 Oil on Canvas
First let me say that a good commission doesn't come along very often....nor
does one often have a "story". This commission is one that resulted from being
in the right place at the right time; I'm a true believer that things happen
when they're supposed to. This story began last October during my participation

Today I'm excited to share a new adventure - I've been asked to be a contributor to a new plein air website EnPleinAirGO! This is a sister-site to Eric Michaels' En Plein Air Pro blog and website. The site will publish reviews from different plein air artists of favorite painting destinations. In between paint out & exhibition events, I traveled to Graham and Mount Pleasant (on different days, of course) and gave a watercolor demonstration for each art group. In mid-November, the Pecan Plantation art association in Granbury invited me for a demo and the following weekend, I taught a 1-day greeting card Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-86535393805988476242012-10-10T21:27:00.000-05:002012-10-10T21:27:21.506-05:00"Cool Shadows" Wins Peoples' Choice in Kerrville, TXThis past weekend, I participated in the Kerrville Outdoor Painters' Event in Kerrville, Texas. In the 2-1/2 days on location, I managed to complete 4 paintings. We were allowed to submit 3 to the exhibit judged by nationally known Albert Handell. Included in my 3 paintings was my Quick Draw painting - which won the Peoples' Choice award.

"The Fowler Home - 201 East University" 16 x 20 Watercolor
Home portrait commissions are hard work. Most go together pretty quick; the elements are easily defined and arranged into a pleasing composition. If it's one of the quick ones, the "research phase" only involves 2 on location sessions for color notes and sketches of architecture details that are lost in the shadowTina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-77825012689295678172012-08-31T13:12:00.000-05:002012-08-31T13:12:01.650-05:00DUNES CHAPEL - Oil on Canvas
DUNES CHAPEL- 9x12- Oil on Canvas
One of my very favorite places to paint on location is Port Aransas, Texas. This studio oil painting was created working from my plein air watercolor sketchbook and photos. I came across this old barn a couple of years ago, on a county road south of Hillsboro, Texas. I was on my way to a friend's house, rounded a curve & driving into the sun, I saw it in my rearview mirror after I was already past. One good thing about gravel county roads is the absense of traffic....and there's no danger of causing a Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com1Waxahachie, Waxahachie32.38653 -96.84833tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-13432429181347029382012-07-20T21:39:00.002-05:002012-07-20T23:08:31.052-05:00105 E. My work in the studio this week was a "labor of love"....a home "portrait". This painting is of a 1920's bungalow on a quiet street in one of Waxahachie's historic districts. My clients purchased the home as newly-weds and as the family grew in numbers, it became necessary to find a larger Tina Bohlmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07186158085375876025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2976483455012800731.post-65342054306067398622012-07-14T21:59:00.001-05:002012-07-14T21:59:28.751-05:00New Blogger App on the go!I just downloaded a new app for my phone that allows me to blog on the go! Wash Day Relics - 11x14 watercolor
This brings back a lot of childhood memories....I'd help Mama & Granny with laundry every Monday. We'd load up the DeSoto and drive 3 miles into "town" to the laundr-o-mat and do the wash in what seemed like hours and hours.
